Welcome to Flighty Lens

If someone had told me a year ago that I’d be spending my free time peering through my camera lens, whispering “Is that…a sparrow? Or maybe another sparrow?” I might have laughed. But here I am, one year and countless bird species later (140, but who’s counting?), squinting into trees, identifying feathers, and probably entertaining the family with my bird-brained adventures.

Birdwatching sounds simple: just go outside, look for birds, and maybe take a few photos, right? Well, not quite. Birding is a mix of patience, serendipity, and mystery. There are days when I’m lucky if I spot a cardinal, and other days when I’m chasing a rare sighting, only to find it’s a leaf shaped like a bird (it happens more often than you’d think!).

In this blog, you’re invited to join me on this feathered journey. I’ll be sharing everything from tips for spotting those elusive warblers to hilarious moments where I’ve been completely outsmarted by a bird. Whether you’re a curious beginner, a casual birder, or a seasoned pro with your own stories of birding triumph and confusion, I’m excited to have you along for the ride.

So grab your binoculars (or your coffee), and let’s dive into the delightful, challenging, and sometimes downright confusing world of birdwatching together. You might just find yourself laughing, learning, and—who knows?—maybe spotting a bird or two along the way.

Stay tuned for tips, bird photography, citizen science adventures, and the occasional “what was I thinking?” moment as I attempt to unravel the mysteries of the birds around us. Welcome to Flighty Lens!
